Mates Catching Crabs For A Greater Cause!

The Tannum Crab Classic cancelled for 2020

It is with great regret that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Tannum Crab Classic Family Fund Day & Laides Night Out, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. This is an incredibly upsetting decision and thought long and hard about alternatives but with the uncertain nature of the viral infection, this was the only sensible conclusion to safeguard our public. Given the most recent government recommendations and the high level of uncertainty around future safety protocols, transport of works, domestic travel, and public gatherings, we see this action as necessary.

We are confident, along with many others in this dreadful position, that the best outcome is to

ensure everyone’s safety this year.

The Tannum Crab Classic would like to thank all our 2020 Sponsors & Community for your support and look forward to seeing you all again in 2021.

CATCHING CRABS FOR FAMILIES IN NEED

The Tannum Crab Classic (TCC) is proud to say we have just completed our tenth anniversary! The annual event which raises much needed funds for local families living with disability continues to grow each year.
TCC consists of two mini events that culminate in the final weekend with the

TCC Family Fun Day.
Four years ago, we introduced the Ladies Night Out, which now kicks off the TCC event program the weekend prior. This addition has increased the event profile and fundraising tally.

The following Friday approximately 50 TCC members head down to the Lillie’s Beach for the Crab Campout. Our members compete to catch the biggest mud crab for Sundays crab races at the Family Fun Day; whilst also providing a relaxed platform to discuss men’s mental health issues. Throughout the camp the blokes raise money amongst themselves all adding to the final fundraising tally.
Following the Crab Campout, on the Sunday, the local community head down to Dennis Park Boyne Island to enjoy the TCC Family Fun Day. The fundraising continues here with raffle tickets and bidding on the big mud crab race. The family orientated afternoon is a great way to bring the community together and help local families in need.
With the continued dedication of our members, volunteers, sponsors and local community, 2020 is set to be even bigger!

Thank you Message from the Big 'E'
FOUNDER & CHAIRMAN TTC

Last year’s tenth Anniversary Crab Classic was a fantastic event which raised $20,000 to generate two University Scholarships; supporting two people with a disability to have tertiary study opportunities. Combine that with the additional funds raised for charity organisations and we’ve generated close to $35,000 directly back to the local Gladstone region.

I’m very proud we’ve been able to give back to the local SES, Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service, Boyne Tannum Rotary and the Seagulls Rugby League Club. They are all huge supporters of the event and really pull the TCC Family Fun Day together.

There are many people behind the scenes, but I would like to personally thank Brenda Smith and her team for organising another smashing Ladies Night Out. Also, a big shout out to Kim Cooke for her tireless work on TCC’s Facebook, advertising and the web page.

A huge thank you to the TCC event crew and all our sponsors and supporters. Without you guys it couldn’t happen! A big THANK YOU to all those that attended and dug deep to help a great cause.”

Look forward to seeing you all then! Cheers Big E.

NOT JUST A
CAMPOUT

PLATFORM TO DISCUSS MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH

The TCC event program is jam-packed with activities, but the Crab Campout is one of the highlights for the TCC members, the guys really hang out for it each year.

Not only do they look forward to the bragging rights for the biggest mud crab caught; the fishing; camping out; fire pits and huge camp oven cook ups. The guys appreciate the time to have a relaxed conversation and opportunity to raise concerns or issues they might be having in their day-to-day lives. This platform really generates a safe environment to foster positive men’s mental health discussions.

The Crab Campout is not only a chance for members to come together and catch crabs, but also to raise much needed funds, support and awareness.

GIVING BACK

TO OUR COMMUNITY

SUPPORTING OUR LOCALS

Funds raised from the Tannum Crab Classic event programme don’t just assist those families living with disability, it also helps support local charity groups and organisations that do so much for our community.

Whilst last year we raised $20,000 to support two people with a disability to attend University, on top of this amount, just under $15,000 was raised for community organisations that help the TCC Family Fun Day run. The funds were broken down in the following way;

$960 local SES;

$960 Helicopter Rescue;

2,000 Boyne/Tannum Rotary;

$10,000 Seagulls Junior Rugby League Club

These Volunteer organisations give their valuable time to help grow this event and invest in our Community. We love being able to give something back to them.
